One Night Stand Theater presents "In a Faraway Land," an evening of folk stories and legends from around the world, on Sunday, August 11, 7:00 p.m. at the Vintage Theatre in Aurora.
The performance features dramatic readings of stories and plays inspired by folk tales from Central America, Europe, Japan, the Middle East, and other “faraway lands.”
“A couple of years ago we did a One Night Stand evening featuring folk tales of the United States,” says One Night Stand Theater artistic director James O’Leary. “This time we decided to explore stories from the rest of the world. It gives us an opportunity to explore different cultures and time periods and have a lot of fun in the process with the audience and the actors.”
The staged readings will include “Braids,” a short story by Denver author Melanie Tem about the Central American legend of Siguanaba; "The End of Innocence," an imagined conversation between Hansel and Gretel by local playwright Jeffrey Neuman; and “Invisible Husband,” a play by Patrick Gabridge adapted from an Eskimo poem. Also featured will be “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves,” “The Wise Dog,” "Boots and the Troll," and “Sad Sea Stories.”
One Night Stand Theater is a Denver-area theater group that presents one-night-only evenings of theatrical staged readings, each with its own theme. Past performances have featured old-time radio shows, plays about romance, and Shakespeare.
