SUMMARY:Diversity & Inclusion Report on Educational Equity: Creating a Colorado for All
DESCRIPTION:Report on Educational Equity: Creating a Colorado for All\n\n\n\nCreating a Colorado for All means that we acknowledge that our state must have an intentional and specific focus on race and ethnicity to erase educational equity gaps. This is a historic time in American history\, one in which the choices we make set the stage for how Colorado will look in the coming years\, and how far we go in the fight for equality.\n\n\n\nWe must live and breathe equity\, infusing it in all of our work. If we fail\, others will perceive us as neutral on the topic\, and follow suit. Success allows us to build coalitions and collaborative networks on campuses to better support students of color and eliminate gaps in who enrolls\, persists\, and completes higher education and who does not. \n\n\n\nTake-aways \n\n	Overview of report and Office of Educational Equity (OEE)\n	Introduction to the Equity Champions Coalition (ECC)\n	Recommendations\n	Implementation and potential action for partners\n\n Our guest speaker\, Dr. Roberto Montoya brings more than 20 years of corporate\, governmental\, and higher education experience to CDHE. Before joining the CDHE leadership team\, he worked for Government Alliance on Race and Equity at Race Forward partnering with state and local government to implement policies\, practices and procedures that focus on racial equity.\n\n\n\nDr. Montoya has worked for the City and County of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver where he led and implemented initiatives that centered on race and social justice with the goal of positively changing outcomes for all. He has taught several undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Colorado Denver in the School of Education regarding the social foundations of race in education and society.\n\n\n\nDr. Montoya has 14 peer-reviewed publications and his research focuses on educational equity\, speculative race fiction\, and teacher education. He holds a B.S. in political science from Colorado Mesa University\, an M.A. in ethnic studies from Regis University\, and a Ph.D. in urban education from the University of Colorado Denver. Raised in Albuquerque\, New Mexico\, Dr. Montoya is committed to community\, praxis\, and elevating BIPOC epistemologies. He is a father\, partner\, scholar\, educator\, and self-proclaimed jazz and hip hop head. \n\n\nAurora Chamber of Commerce Diversity & Inclusion Mission: to promote diversity and inclusion in the business community through education\, outreach\, networking\, mentoring and recognition programs that engage our entire community and support our business leaders.\n \n\nAurora Chamber of Commerce Diversity & Inclusion Vision: to transform our diverse business communities into environments where all businesses are valued for their uniqueness and differences\, and are confident that their contributions matter.\n\n \n\nAurora Chamber of Commerce Diversity & Inclusion Purpose: to encourage business to business networking\, improving the business climate and making this community prosperous\, economically attractive and desirable as a place to work\, live and buy local.\n\n\n\nThe Diversity and Inclusion Council is sponsored by Pinnacol Assurance.\n\n\n\nThank you for your support of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and the Women in Business Committee. The Aurora Chamber consistently strives to provide access\, advocacy\, and influence for our members through our programs and committees. We can only be successful if we retain existing members and attract new members. Please help us by inviting someone as your guest to our next meeting.
